Singer-composer Zubir Ali dies(6 march 09)

PETALING JAYA: Singer-composer Zubir Ali died at Damansara Specialist Hospital at 10.30am Friday from complications after a heart surgery. He was 60.
The former member of folk band Harmoni whose hits included Penantian and Balada Seorang Gadis Kecil underwent heart bypass a week ago.
His youngest Raihan Rani, 23, said: “Since yesterday, dad started to feel pain and at 6am, his blood pressure dropped suddenly.
“Praise be to Allah everyone in the family managed to be by dad’s side until he was proclaimed to have passed away,” he told Bernama at the Section 14 mosque in Petaling Jaya where the funeral rituals were performed after Friday prayers.

Songwriter M. Nasir said Zubir’s passing was a big loss to the country’s music industry.
“I was shocked when told by a friend this morning that Zubir has passed on. We were supposed to have met in a meeting yesterday but he could not make it because he was unwell,” he said.
“We have been friends for over 20 years. I still remember the early 1980s when Zubir and his band were very popular.”
Zubir, who was born in Alor Setar, leaves behind a wife, a son and two daughters. He was laid to rest at the Bukit Kiara cemetery after Asar prayers.
